First stop in Thailand was -ofcourse- Bangkok!
My city-pictures always turn out more dark than it truly was
at the time. Probably global dimming at work.
Bangkok can be described as friendly chaos! It has atmosphere to it!
The main attraction here is the royal temple. An amazing
place!
It is like stepping into a fairy tale.
Next to the royal temple there is also a temple with a giant golden Buddha:
Some crappy but nice houses amongst the skyscrapers!
Next I went to a national park at the coast: They pitched up a lovely tent at the beach for me! I was the only one there.
Main attraction here was a cave with partly collapsed roof.
It looks uninviting, but at the time it was very warm. The
camera doesn't capture the colors very well.
Only sandflies started to itch if you lingered too long
This horrible beast attacked my T-shirt at night!
Next national park was An Thong: a group of beautiful islands sticking up from the ocean.
All tourists come as part of a tour and go for the viewpoint
They scramble up there in the burning sun. I went there in the
early morning and had the panorama all to myself.
It is really recommendable to do it this way: Just buy a boat-ticket at the
harbour on Ko Samui. Do not join a tour.
The main island also has a cave that all tourists mis out on
because they don't have time to visit it.
I explored it alone and got scared shitless by bats flying out suddenly.
It was really quite good! I exhausted myself there, exploring every little dark corner.
A petrified glittery waterfall
The ghost of my soul! (yeah, whatever...)
Looking down on all stressing tourists who had to hurry back
to the boat.
I just let the staff at the headquarters pitch up a lovely tent for me, as in
the previous park.
The headquarters! No, it's not on fire! A dude is walking
around with a huge insectrepellent-gun
(you have to hold it Rambo-style)
On the way back we (meaning me and the tourgroup) visited an
inland lake on an island:
A true touristjam occured here. Horrible! Part of the movie "The beach" was
recorded here or something. Whatever...
This is a picture of Ko Pha Ngan: a very touristic island that
is famous for its montly fullmoon party: A huge beachparty.
Ofcourse I had to visit this legendary party. Here I met a very cute Thai girl
named Pair.
With her I went to an other island called Ko Tao. This island turned out to be much more authentic and beautiful.
If you sat down in the water at a certain spot, schools of
fish came swimming around you!
The photo doesn't show this very well, but it does show how cute Pair is!
Looking at the fish! (no we were not imagining stuff)
The lookout from a neighbouring smaller island.
We also went to the city of Nakhon Si Tammarat: A place that
barely has tourists in comparisson with the rest of Thailand.
I don't have any pictures of this place, but it is recommendable as it is very
Thai.
(if you're tall, mind your head as shopsigns can chop it off easily)
A picture from the train that left to the far southern part of Thailand, on its way to Malaysia.
Now we make a jump in time: I went to
Malaysia for about a month.
Then I came back to Thailand to be together with Pair for another week.
Below some photos of this! We were on the island of Ko Samui.
Little girl at a little waterfall.
She's Buddhist! Praying for her family and friends to have a good life.
Us two at an other Buddhist temple (a big Buddha statue, see below)
The Nightmarket
As a bonus, here some pictures of a typical nightmarket.
It was my primary source of energy during my whole trip!
Different kinds of Satay.
All kinds of dishes. Lovely stuff!
Most of it I haven't even tried, so I still have much to discover.
"Poffertjes", filled with coconutcream: excellent desert
Other deserts. Often too sweet for my liking.
Very crispy, but no good taste: like fish turned bad.
